FilmLight establishes unique partnerships at IBC2014

Key developers in the post and broadcast industry illustrate their partnerships with FilmLight throughout IBC2014 with collaborative demonstrations and distinctive presentations – exhibiting tools for the entire production process from on-set to delivery. In each location, the focus is on evolving workflows, ease of work and cost efficiencies across multiple platforms and formats.

“Colour grading can no longer be seen in isolation, as a separate hero process in the post house,” said Wolfgang Lempp, co-founder of FilmLight. “It has to be regarded as part of a tightly integrated, collaborative workflow from set to screen. We are delighted to partner with leading names such as Dolby Labs, RED, Panasonic and The Foundry at IBC this year to show just how technically sound and functionally robust our systems are when they integrate with the other technology our clients rely on.”

On the Dolby stand, visitors can participate in a unique demonstration of Dolby’s high dynamic range (Dolby Vision). Colourist Shane Ruggieri will use Baselight to showcase the extended colour spectrum and contrast only available with HDR, and accessible right now to every Baselight colourist. Since the introduction of Dolby Vision support at NAB2014, Baselight continues to be the only grading system fully optimised for Dolby Vision. Baselight customer, Deluxe, is already using the technology to master episodic and long-form content in its Hollywood facility.

Introducing the third generation of its Super-35mm 4K VariCam 35 camera, Panasonic demonstrates a complete production workflow ideal for high-end filmmaking, commercials and episodic production and post, as well as live 4K events. This includes FLIP, FilmLight’s on-set colour corrector, Daylight, the new solution for dailies production, and a Baselight finishing system with Slate compact control surface for final grading.

FilmLight and RED collaborate in an exclusive live presentation on the IBC Big Screen on Saturday morning. Laura Jans-Fazio, colourist at Hollywood-based post facility Encore, will showcase her work on Netflix’s acclaimed series House of Cards – Season 2. The presentation provides a unique opportunity to see an expert colourist grading with Baselight’s state of the art tools live – in 4K – in a cinema.

Product specialists from FilmLight and The Foundry will be running demonstrations of Baselight for NUKE, the new grading plugin for the compositing and effects platform, on the FilmLight stand (7.F31) each day.

Also on the FilmLight stand, showcasing its advanced support for a wide range of essential production metadata, FilmLight hosts the latest version of Ncam’s camera tracking system. On show as well are the results of the successful technology collaboration between ARRI, Codex and FilmLight, which links the ALEXA camera and Codex Vault to the FLIP real-time image processor. Finally, customers can view high-end 4K content graded live on Baselight using the Canon DP-V3010 and the Sony PVM-X300 4K reference monitors.
