FilmLight Releases Major Baselight Upgrade

FilmLight, designers of Baselight, the world’s leading colour grading system, today announce the release of Baselight 4.3 with a host of powerful new features, introducing a unique “Triple-Head Display”, and representing a generational leap forward in responsiveness, flexibility and productivity.

Highlights of Baselight 4.3 include:

  • Intelligent render caching adds the ability to cache a grading stack up to a specific layer and then use that cache as the source for the rest of the stack. This means that time-intensive operations such as temporal degrain only have to be applied once.
A new background renderer silently renders the current shots to cache during idle time which means that cached material is ready to be output to disk or tape without any further processing . The performance increase feels like a major hardware upgrade.
  • Object-Based Area Tracker eliminates the time-consuming process of defining objects by plotting multiple tracking points. Instead, the user simply selects an object and lets the software identify its boundaries. It even accommodates scaling and rotation while applying the grade. This tool has been proven to work with great success even in difficult scenes, providing simpler, faster and more reliable results than other systems or methods.
  • Triple-Head Display allows the user to deploy as many as three UI monitors. Each monitor is user-configurable to display any desired arrangement of panels providing a more ergonomic workspace and allowing instant UI switching when you need to re-configure for different tasks.
  • Built in Scopes take full advantage of the Triple-Head UI and include Vectorscope, RGB Parade, YCbCr Parade and Luma Waveform displays which ensure that accurate  levels are displayed with an indication of illegal colours. Unlike hardware scopes, they can be set to read the image before the application of a final display LUT.

Additionally, Baselight 4.3 features an extended and improved 3D toolset. Common operations such as geometry alignment and convergence adjustments have been automated making them easier and even faster to use. Also included is a new Stereo Grade function  which combines common creative ‘depth grading’ operations into a single operator thereby simplifying the creative grading process.

These are just some of the new features and performance improvements contained in Baselight 4.3 that ensure Baselight remains the most powerful, creative and precise colour grading system available.  For further information including all the new features see the Baselight 4.3 Datasheet.
