IMAGICA implements FilmLight’s Baselight Colour Grading

Leading Japanese post-production company chooses Baselight

IMAGICA, Japan’s most established and respected post-production company, has chosen to deploy a Baselight FOUR colour grading system from FilmLight into one of its existing Digital Intermediate (DI) suites at IMAGICA’s Tokyo Imaging Centre. Baselight FOUR provides IMAGICA with conform, file and colour management, fast storage, grain reduction and non-linear colour grading in a comprehensive, high-performance DI solution.

The new Baselight FOUR system will be equipped with FilmLight’s high-performance Parallel GPU processing, 3D stereoscopic toolset, temporal grain reduction, and RAW file format handling of images shot with the latest digital cameras. The system will be used to colour-grade 2K and 4K features for both film and digital release, including 3D stereoscopic productions.

Baselight’s advanced grading feature set, supporting various resolutions and colour spaces on several concurrent timelines, was a key part of IMAGICA’s decision. With 48 processing cores, 4K capable local storage, fibre channel interface to SAN and parallel streaming architecture, Baselight FOUR provides IMAGICA with the power and performance to apply complex grades to 2K and 4K imagery in real-time.

“On a daily basis, we do colour-grading on various categories including feature films, re-mastering of film archives, trailers, stereoscopic content and TV commercials,” says Takehiko Ochi, Manager, Digital Imaging Group, Post Production Department. “Inevitably, we chose Baselight to play a leading role in our DI workflow.”

“We are very excited about the flexible functions and high performance of Baselight FOUR; it will allow our colourists to demonstrate their creativity without any stress.”

FilmLight is committed to providing world-class solutions to the top facilities in Asia and around the world,” adds Scott Craig, Managing Director of FilmLight’s regional office in Singapore. “We are delighted to be working closely with IMAGICA.”
