FilmLight Previews the Future of Colour Grading at NAB 2011

Industry leader debuts new product initiatives aimed at enhancing the high-end grading experience and making it accessible to more creative companies

Furthering its position as the industry’s innovation leader, FilmLight is debuting several new colour grading technologies at NAB 2011 that will promote new workflows, broaden access to best-of-class tools, and dramatically change the future of post-production.

Leading FilmLight’s new product initiatives is Blackboard 2, a radical reinvention of the post-production control surface. Blackboard 2’s ‘soft-key’ design will instantly make high-end grading more productive and more creative. It will also open the floodgates to future development, providing a platform for the creation of new features and processes.

Baselight for Final Cut Pro, FilmLight’s new plugin for the popular editing platform, puts sophisticated colour grading technology within reach of an entirely new class of user. Priced under $1000, it provides an ideal way for editorial houses and smaller post-production facilities to embrace high-end colour grading with the industry’s most respected brand.

FilmLight is also previewing Baselight 4.3, the latest version of its award-winning grading software. This new release features include a unique ‘triple head’ user interface that allows users to simultaneously review the system interface, image gallery and scopes, alongside the image monitor. Other new features will deliver significant gains in productivity, performance and compatibility with popular editorial formats.

Additionally, FilmLight will be launching a new Baselight HD platform with significantly improved performance, more storage and more room for peripherals such as RED Rocket cards.

“The new technologies we are bringing to NAB extend Baselight’s lead as the most technologically advanced grading system available,” said FilmLight co-founder Wolfgang Lempp. “They also signal our intent to continue to develop world-class tools and to make them accessible to the wider creative community.”

FilmLight will also be running daily presentations on the RED booth (SL6220) with partners Avid. Plus, Senior Colourist Lou Levinson from Laser Pacific will be discussing how he completed the restoration on WW11 classic ‘Saving Private Ryan’ with Baselight (Paramount Room | Renaissance Hotel – Mon & Tues at 5pm).
