Pacific Title Adds Truelight Colour Management, Northlight Scanner

Site-Wide Colour Management Is Key Capability for Company’s Growing DI Business

FilmLight Ltd. announced today that Pacific Title and Art Studio, one of Hollywood’s longest-standing and leading providers of digital film services, has purchased both a Truelight system for site-wide colour management and a new Northlight scanner (the company’s third) to handle increased demand for its scanning/recording services.

Ensuring Colour Accuracy with Truelight

Pacific Title has installed the Truelight HD/SDI hardware into its new Digital Intermediate (DI) suite, with plans to bring a second system online with the addition of its second DI suite in the coming months. The company will also implement the full Truelight software library across all workstations in its Hollywood facility to ensure that colour on every electronic display is accurate to the final film print. The company has also purchased the Truelight “cube builder” which enables it to quickly and easily input and adjust parameters like lab density or recording gamma to manage project variables on the fly.

“With DI, you simply have to have the right colour,” said Andy Tran, CTO at Pacific Title. “We did a filmout to test the packages we were considering and Truelight won hands down. It’s the most mature product we looked at, and also the most flexible. The colour was the most accurate to film, and the cube builder is a smart addition that lets us respond quickly to lab chemical changes or calibrate new devices.”

Meeting Increased Client Demand with Northlight

Pacific Title has also expanded its capacity by installing a third Northlight system at its West Hollywood scanning/recording facility to meet increasing demand. The new scanner, which is scheduled for installation in November, will be upgraded to the just-announced Northlight 2, featuring a 4-6x speed increase, when it becomes available in mid 2005. To date, Northlight scanners at Pacific Title have been used on such films as ‘Van Helsing’, ‘Miracle’, and ‘Catwoman’.

Pacific Title president, Phil Feiner, noted, “Our business is increasing dramatically. The demand for scanning keeps growing, and our DI services have taken off. FilmLight is an important part of this growth. Not only are their products well conceptualized and highly capable, their level of commitment demonstrates that they understand the depth and complexity of the DI process. They continue to deliver what we need to be successful.”
