FotoKem Selects Baselight for New Post-production Facility in Budapest

FilmLight today announced that FotoKem has installed Baselight EIGHT and Baselight HD colour grading systems at its newly-built post production facility in Budapest. The systems will anchor two Digital Intermediate theatres with Baselight EIGHT used for 2K/4K grading of conventional and stereoscopic films. Baselight HD will be used for non-linear grading of commercial and television projects. Additionally, FilmLight’s Truelight technology will be used for colour management throughout FotoKem’s new facility.

FotoKem Budapest is located on the 52-acre Raleigh Studios lot and is the result of a strategic alliance between FotoKem, Raleigh Studios and Origo Film Group. In addition to colour grading, the facility provides film laboratory, digital processing, visual effects production and editorial finishing services. The facility is tied directly to FotoKem’s flagship operations in Los Angeles and aims to service projects produced on the Raleigh Studios lot as well as those originating elsewhere in Europe, the United States and around the globe.

FotoKem selected the Baselight systems for their versatility and the ease with which they can be integrated into the facility’s file-based workflow. “The FilmLight products fit what we are trying to do in Central and Eastern Europe, and that is to provide our clients with options,” explains FotoKem Budapest Managing Director Allan Tudzin. “With Baselight EIGHT and Baselight HD, we can accommodate every workflow used for commercials, television and features. The ability Baselight provides to work with 2K and 4K media in real-time is also a great advantage.”

Tudzin added that the facility’s features grading theatre, with its ability to grade stereoscopic media and 4K media in real-time is unrivalled in Eastern Europe and on par with the highest standards for DI grading in Hollywood and London. “Baselight EIGHT is the perfect match for our Barco 4K digital projectors, providing a true cinematic experience during the colour grading process,” he said. “And the toolset is superb. Colourists work in a resolution independent environment and can apply an infinite number of corrections, layers and complex trackable mattes in a single frame. For reliability, flexibility and speed, Baselight is without peer.”
