FilmLight, a leading provider of digital film technology, announced today that German Post production company ACHT Frankfurt have purchased the first Baselight HD grading system.
Baselight HD is a new member of the Baselight range specifically designed for SD and HD grading.
ACHT chose Baselight HD after extensive evaluation of the HD grading system market. Specifically they wanted a grading system that was tuned for HD video to complete their HD workflow, but one that could also handle DI for feature film grading.
A technology leader in Germany, ACHT were one of the first post production companies to investigate using digital film cameras instead of the more traditional 16/35mm film cameras.
Oliver Kähler, Technical Director, ACHT explained, “Our idea is to step into the future now, it won’t be long before most work is shot on digital film cameras. With the Baselight HD, we can offer all our clients digital negative grading now, regardless of source; film, HD video, or data”.
ACHT commented that their plan was to embrace digital film acquisition and its adoption in the German commercials market by providing guidance and expertise from pre-planning to deliverables.
“Everyone is aware that shooting on digital film cameras provides significant workflow benefits by missing out the lab and scanning stages”, said Kähler, “however, handling the colour management issues and logarithmic data produced by these cameras can seem daunting to DoPs. We’re here to make the process easy”.
