Berlin’s cine plus Adds FilmLight’s Baselight HD

Post House Building DI Pipeline to Service Domestic and International Film and Television Market

Berlin-based cine plus Media Service has become the latest European post-production company to purchase a Baselight HD, the software-based, non-linear colour grading system from FilmLight. Installed at cine plus’ headquarters facility in Berlin, the system will be linked to an Avid DS Nitris as part of a new, highly flexible HD and DI pipeline and used to perform post production work for feature films, short films, television shows and commercials.

cine plus has been planning its initial move into HD and DI colour grading for several months and evaluated several software colour graders before selecting Baselight HD primarily based on its performance. “We were particularly impressed with the stability of the system,” stated Frank Evers, managing director of the cine plus group. “We also liked the intuitive and userfriendly design of the Blackboard grading panel.”

Baselight HD’s colour grading capabilities combined with Avid DS Nitris’s editorial, visual effects and compositing tools form a powerful solution for finishing projects for theatrical and broadcast release. Both systems support a non-linear, resolution independent workflow. Additionally, both are software-based and therefore are “future proof.” Baselight HD also provides a direct upgrade path to FilmLight’s Baselight FOUR and Baselight EIGHT grading platforms.

“Baselight HD also has the advantage of having wide acceptance among the filmmakers, producers and editors that we work with,” added Helge Neubronner, head of operations and technology. “We can now offer the entire technical service for digital cinematography from a single source: camera work to cutting, conforming, visual effects and grading up to the HD/SD broadcasting master and the exposed 35mm negative.”

cine plus is among the leading full media service providers in Germany with facilities in Berlin, Brandeburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, North Rhine Westphalia, Baden-Wurttemberg and Bavaria. It offers complete post production services, including editorial, visual effects production, colour grading, compositing and audio mixing. cineplus also provides production services for news, broadcast, events and corporate media. cine plus co-produced, amongst others, the feature film, Eden, which won the Tiscali Audience Award at the recent Rotterdam International Film Festival and Philip Groening’s documentary Into Great Silence (Bavarian, German and European Film Awards).
